Turquoise Mosaics

A mosaic is a piece of art comprised of small pieces of glass, stone, ceramic, broken pottery, or other materials that have been organized to create a pattern or representational image.

More than 2200 years ago, turquoise mosaics of spiritual significance were being created in Persia.  The turquoise mosaic art form has a long history.  In Mexico, turquoise mosaic masks were being made as early as 900 AD.  Today, many contemporary artists continue to work in this tradition.
